What is the Myotest?

"...it is about improving athletic performance"

The mark of improvement is considered by many as the cornerstone of athletic development. To improve, you need to first understand where you stand today, how you plan to optimize your training time, and then determine if you made a positive impact.

The Myotest was created specifically to address these training issues and provide you with the information to enhance athletic performance. Information that was limited to the sport scientist and elite training center, is now available to all trainers, coaches, and athletes in a portable, accurate, and quick test – the Myotest.

Power, vertical jump, strength, velocity, and 1RM are just some of the measurements now available. In less than a minute, a test may be completed to look at athletic performance during numerous training movements such as jumps, bench, and squat.

1. Measurements designed for your sport

The Myotest offers seven pre-programmed testing protocols that represent the movements often associated with power development. There is also a trainer mode which allows you to become creative and design tests specific to your training and sport.

This is the important, but often overlooked, measurement information required to set a baseline, optimize training, track change, and mark improvement. For more information about the testing protocols and how they apply to your sport please click on “protocols” or “my sport”.

2. Optimize training time & results

The Myotest offers the information to optimize training loads and time to accelerate your performance development. The Muscular Profile allows you to look at the power, strength, and velocity generated at various training loads. You will also be able to accurately estimate the 1RM at lighter loads.

What does this mean for you? You now have the information showing the load where peak power is generated, and the training load zones for power/speed or power/strength development.

Since optimizing training outcomes varies depending on the athlete, position, or sport; the right information that fits the athlete will save time and lead to positive results.

3. Comparing and sharing results

An internet based reporting package is included with every Myotest so you may save test results. Information from the Myotest is quickly transferred to the reporting program through a usb connection.

Comparison reports for one athlete, before and after, or a group of athletes are available to view or print. You may also use our evolving international database to see how your results compare to athletes from around the world – even those at the elite level!

The Myotest Package

...Myotest to start improving now

The Myotest package includes everything required to start measuring and improving your athletic performance. You may chose to use one of the seven pre-programmed protocols, or use the trainer mode to personalize tests for a specific sport or movement.

This package is designed for the individual athlete or the trainer/coach. In under a minute results are instantly displayed on the Myotest, allowing you to quantify the important athletic development information, and giving you the results required to track improvement.

Measurements That Matter

A wealth of important training information is all part of the Myotest. Your results will allow you to create a true performance baseline and track real change.

No longer are you limited to the traditional methods of testing strength such as “how much weight” or “how many times”; rather the Myotest gives you the true performance measurements such as power production, force generated, and the velocity of a movement.

The test information will vary depending on the protocol you chose, but here is a sample of the Myotest measurements:

  • Power (watts)
  • Contact Time (ms)
  • Force / Strength (newton)
  • Flight Time (ms)
  • Velocity / Speed (cm/s)
  • Muscle Stiffness
  • Vertical height (in or cm)
  • Reactivty
  • 1 RM
  • Power/speed & power/Strength training zones

Reporting and Analysis

The Myotest package also offers an internet-based reporting package. Simply log on to your personal Myotest web page account and download all of the important training information. This package allows you to generate before-and-after, trending, and comparison reports.

You may compare your results with other Myotest users from around the world; or if you are a trainer/coach, you may set up a reporting database of your training clients.

...Myotest PRO for advance performance

The Myotest PRO package utilizes the same technology as the Myotest package, but goes a step further by including the powerful PRO software.

This package is designed specifically for advanced performance training and research applications, offering a more detailed analysis of the athletic movements and measurements.

PRO Analysis

The PRO software and reporting package provides powerful and detailed training information. A wide range of interpretational reports used during initial assessment and athletic development are just part of the capabilities.

The ability to look at test results in numerous ways, such as curves versus absolute values versus bar graphs, and the ability to set triggers to isolate data during certain parts of a movement, makes the PRO semi-customizable and flexible. Reports such as bi-lateral differences and fatigue tests, and the analysis of rate of force development and braking are additional PRO features.

An added benefit for the researcher is the ability to export the test raw data into an excel spreadsheet, up to a detail of 2 milliseconds.

The PRO Package

The Myotest PRO package includes everything required to start testing immediately:
  • Myotest
  • PRO Software CD
  • Internet based reporting package
  • Elastic waistband which the Myotest is attached during the jump tests
  • Plastic clip used to attached the Myotest to the barbell for squat & bench tests
  • Velcro patches to attach the Myotest to dumbbells or weight stacks
  • USB cable to download the tests from the Myotest to your computer
  • Instructional DVD with video demonstrated testing protocols
  • Quick guide CD
  • Carrying case

The Myotest PRO software and reporting package provides powerful training information. The package offers a wide range of interpretational reports to be utilized during assessment and development.

Left vs. Right Comparison Report

The report example shows a comparison between the left and right legs. You may access an athlete's capacities and performance in fine detail by studying he left leg versus right leg during a jump. After collecting data from each leg individually, the PRO software offers an analysis and comparison of the left and right leg power, force, and velocity.

Selecting Training Weights

Myotest PRO can be used to determine the 1RM value by using lighter eights. This offers numerous benefits, such as avoiding the risk related to movement with excessively heavy weights. You may now identify an athlete's muscular profile.

The software provides the ideal weight for each aspect of training, such as speed, power/speed, power/strength, muscle mass, or maximum strength. A profile reliability index is used to ensure that the test is carried out correctly, and that the weights suggested reasonably match the athlete's ability. The profile information will save time by providing the information to carry out an effective training schedule.

Fatigue Resistance Test

Click here to zoom in on this picture...

How long can an athlete continue to produce high levels of performance before fatigue interferes with physical ability? All performance trainers ask themselves this question, especially in team sports. The PRO software allows fatigue related values to be analyzed, graphed, and shown as a percentage of maximum capacity. The chart opposite shows an analysis of fatigue resistance during a jumping movement.
